This is a premium product. I’ve upped my game on knives, and sharpening, and this is a big step up too… I definitely recommend. Thanks Ryky
Great entry level chef's knife. Comes razor sharp and ready to do work. Nicely rounded top edge that is easy on the hand and the d shaped handle is very comfortable for all day use. Highly recommended. I will certainly buy more products from Tojiro and Burrfection in the future.
It's a very nice set ,stones work well sharpen exactly how the should. The holder an bridge are easy to set up.
Just what I expected and better than my previous great experience with this type of cutting board, from a different maker. Easy on knives and easy to clean
I have just got some more of these recently and I wish there was price matching features because these of now Amazon & others are 48$ for plate and Diamond and 53$for the others
I use this knife everyday, was very sharp out of the box and is easy to sharpen. Not my most expensive knife definitely, but it is my favourite. I love it.
Don’t know if this review will be taken down.
Had issues not with the products, customer service is average, but with the packaging of the items ordered.
The stones are great. The sharpening video great. The packaging was great.
I am aware that the shipping companies are vendors and beyond the purview of burrfection, but it can be disappointing when they fall far short of expectation.
In short. Thankyou
I used this kit to sharpen my Miyabi 8" Artisan chef's knife and 3.5" utility knife, both of which have a steeper 20°-22° angle than my other knives. Most of them are 30°+. The Miyabi was very sharp from the factory, but at least two years had passed and I didn't want to alter the design profile. My previous kit (which I still have) was a SpyderCo Sharp Maker, which is a quality kit for more basic sharpening at predefined angles... just not the angle I needed for the Miyabi knives. But they really needed sharpened and I wasn't about to let some unknown person loose on my prized Miyabis with exotic angles. I love these knives as if they were my children.
This kit has really taken my sharpening game to the next level. Pro? Not yet, but I'm working on it. The Zen thing takes time and experience. These stones are pro for sure though! They feel like nothing I've ever felt before, being new to this level of sharpening. I now find myself looking for knives to sharpen, to get more time on the stones. I'm thinking of offering services to my colleagues just to get more practice.
I decided to also add an 8000-grit Shapton Glass stone [****] Ryky's recommendation. It wasn't necessary to get my knives shaving sharp, but it did push the finish into the mirror range which I'd never seen before. I have a fairly cheap strop I used when sharpening pocket knives. It works but I hope to get one of Ryky's strops in the future for proper chef's knives and such.
I watched Ryky's videos and started on an older Chicago Cutlery 8" chef's knife at a steeper angle. I found the angle by feel as Ryky teaches. After working up to the 3000-grit stone and developing a burr, I moved over to the 8000-grit Shapton Glass. Just some light honing there until I could see reflections in the edge. Wow! Scary sharp. At least as sharp as from the Miyabi factory if not more.
I highly recommend this kit. You don't need the 8000-grit stone I added for typical kitchen use. I'm just a perfectionist (Burrfectionist?). Thank you Ryky for your guidance, knowledge, attitude, and philosophy of kindness and sharing. I'll be doing this now for the rest of my life. 😊
Fujiwara knives are an odd Ugly Duckling / Beautiful Swan type situation. Whether it seems Ugly or Beautiful has more to do with your knowledge and expectations than it does the knife itself.
Fujiwara has basically min-maxed the functional traits on a kitchen knife: he gives the knife exactly what it needs to perform, and nothing more. So while it glides through produce like a dream, it doesn't look like much. For those that just want a pretty knife, this item may be a disappointment. But for those who can appreciate the knowledge and skill that went into only improving the most necessary of functional elements, this may be the most beautiful ugly knife you've ever held.
I love and enjoy using it! So gentle on my Japanese knives and it’s soft . Came well packaged as well!
Beautiful, SHARP, handles like a dream.
Great knive with great value for the price. Weight and length are perfect for me, minor imperfections on the cutting edge but after first sharpening session they were gone. The handle is also perfect for small to medium size hands. A true work horse in my opinion.
knife quality is amazing and the blades edge is sharp as can be and cuts through anything with ease. Definitely suggest this knife for everyone!
Got this amazing board today and The only word that I can say is a big wow !!! 🤩🔪🎶 it’s my first one and for sure not the last one. Such a pleasure cutting/prepping and cleaning it. 5 stars ✨!!!
And the shipping was super fast. Thanks guys !!!
I have over 30 Japanese knives to compare this to. This knife is more beautiful in hand than in pictures. The uniqueness of this piece is what I wanted. My knives are on display on the counter, and use. The subtle flame pattern on the blade is a nice touch. I was pleasantly surprised that the handle I got was fatter towards the end. So it feels better in the hand than what I was expecting from the picture. I didn’t consider that it was horn and change from knife to knife. The rest is what you would expect from a knife.
