Motokyuuichi Hamono 本久一刃物

From the historic castle town of Shimabara, a region famed for its pristine volcanic water, comes Motokyuuichi Hamono (本久一刃物), a brand forged in over a century of history. The story begins in 1895, inheriting the legacy of the "Kyuichi" line of esteemed swordsmiths. This deep knowledge was passed to the Maeda family, who transitioned the craft from swords to the exceptional kitchen knives they are known for today.

This rich lineage is now proudly carried by the father-and-son team of Kiyonori Maeda, the 4th generation master blacksmith, and his son Yasuhide Maeda, the 5th generation. Central to their time-honored method is the use of Shimabara's soft, pure spring water for the critical quenching stage. Filtered through volcanic earth, this water is a cherished element of their process, one they consider essential for forging a blade with the signature resilience and sharpness of a Motokyuuichi knife. Each blade is a testament to this story, blending ancestral wisdom with the passion of its current masters.
