Naniwa P-308 Professional (Chosera) #800 Stone is Ryky’s favorite splash-n-go / non-soaking sharpening or medium grit whetstone. It is responsive, fast cutting, and able to handle knives of all Rockwell ratings (testing up to 67 HRC).  It was Ryky’s top sharpening whetstone for 3 years in a row, very few stones come close to offering this level of performance at any price point.

Made in Japan

Spec:

  • Origin: Osaka, Japan
  • Grit No.: #800 WA
  • Type: Splash & Go
  • Dimension: 210 x 70 x 20mm (8.2 x 2.7 x 0.7")
  • Weight: 745g (26.27oz)
  • Abrasive: white aluminium oxide
  • Cohesive agent: magnesium-bound

How to use:

Do not soak this whetstone. Simply apply water on the surface when ready to use. Rinse and wipe dry with a hand towel when done, and allow air dry at room temp. Do not leave in water.

How to clean:

If the stone’s performance is slowing down, or seems to be diminishing, you can clean using a rust eraser,  nagura stone, dressing stone, or a flattening plate. Be sure to clean the entire surface of the whetstone when using any of these methods to ensure even wear of the whetstone’s surface.

Naniwa P-308 Professional

I really liked the new stone! Cut fast and made a nice edge for further honing! Would highly recommend this stone!

My favourite coarse stone.

Sharpened some of my knives on the very same day this arrived. Cuts faster and works much better than my old whetstone. It's so good. Definitely my favourite coarse sharpening stone!

Cuts steel like butter

I compared cutting power of this abrasive material to King 300 grit and it forms burr at least twice as fast on my carbon steel and VG10 knives. What I also love about this stone, after a good buildup it doesn't feel muddy, it doesn't grip the blade and overall feedback is very consistent. If knife has not been dull through the ages, I don't think lesser grit is even required when you have this beast!

Amazing stone

I held off on this stone for quite a while and I’m really regretting that.
I’ve been using the chosera 3000 grit which I also like but the 800 has a very nice tactile feeling but not too “grippy”.
I really like this stone!

Perfect stone

This stone is great for a quick touch up because it does not require soaking.
