King Whetstone

King KDS #1000/6000 Combination Whetstone

$47.00

The King KDS #1000/6000 is one of the few combo whetstones that Ryky truly enjoys using. After testing dozens of combo whetstones since the start of Burrfection channel, Ryky can name 2-3 combo whetstones that are worth buying, and the KDS is on the top of that list. It is not just for those who are beginning their hand sharpening journey, but for advanced users, who simply want a good quality budget combo whetstone. You are literally getting the Deluxe 1000 and the S1 6000, thinned out and sandwiched together.

The 1000 grit side uses the same sharpening compound as the Deluxe 1000 -  gives excellent feedback, and is suitable for knives up to 62 Rockwell.

The 6000 grit side is buttery smooth and requires no soaking before use. Just splash water on the surface before use, and you are good to go.

Made in Japan

Spec:

  • Origin: Tokonama City, Japan
  • Grit No.: #1000 WA / #6000 WA
  • Stone Type: Soaking (#1000) / Splash (#6000)
  • Dimension: 207 × 66 × 36mm (8.1 x 2.6 x 1.4")
  • Weight: 997g (35.16oz)
  • Material: Special Synthetic Material
  • Made by King Whetstone, distributed by Matsunaga Stone, Osaka.

How to use:

Pre-soak the #1000 grit side for 15 minutes before use, and apply water on surface during sharpening when needed. When soaking, immerse the #1000 side face down in water just deep enough to cover the #1000 side. The #6000 grit side requires no soaking. Rinse and wipe dry with a hand towel when done, and allow air dry at room temp. Do not leave in water.

How to clean:

If the stone’s performance is slowing down, or seems to be diminishing, you can clean using a rust eraser, nagura stone, dressing stone, or a flattening plate. Be sure to clean the entire surface of the whetstone when using any of these methods to ensure even wear of the whetstone’s surface.

Wow!!

We have a large kitchen knife that was pretty dull, this stone brought it to a razor edge that can shave hair! Being my first whetstone it took some practice on cheaper knives but once I figured out the angles and pressure it was sharpened very quickly

Great Customer Service

The stone is a xmas gift so I cant review that - but I just wanted to say that the customer service was awesome! I was contacted to let me know delivery was going to attract an extra courier cost. We changed the address to avoid the fee, and delivery was very quick and seamless. Delivery to Australia from US was actually quicker than what our postal service is currently doing at the moment. Thanks!

My first Japanese whetstone

I had picked up some cheaper stones from another online retailer and got what I paid for. I'm still new to sharpening but this stone has been very easy to use, its grit ratings hold true to scale per my experience.
I'm sure I will acquire other stones but for now, this 1000/6000 combination stones meets my needs and puts a fine edge on any blade I've brought to it.
Worth the price, I would recommend this product.

That was easy

Came with my first knife from the burrfection store. Instagram had a few whetstone manufacturers and I didn’t trust it. Did a quick 10 minute run with this naikiri and slicing through celery was akin to paper. Will update on further use!

Overall

Don’t know if this review will be taken down.

Had issues not with the products, customer service is average, but with the packaging of the items ordered.

The stones are great. The sharpening video great. The packaging was great.

I am aware that the shipping companies are vendors and beyond the purview of burrfection, but it can be disappointing when they fall far short of expectation.

In short. Thankyou
