King Whetstone
King Gold G-1 Finishing Whetstone #8000
Pickup currently unavailable
The King G1 whetstone is the next stone in line after the very popular King S1 6000 grit whetstone. This fine polishing whetstone retains all of the qualities users love about the S1, but gives a finer mirror polish. It is a full-sized polishing whetstone, and suited for professional use, or for enthusiasts and home users. The feedback and responsiveness is similar to the S1 - not too hard, not too soft - just right. It is slightly more forgiving than other 8000 grit whetstones, such as the popular Kitayama 8000, which is harder and will give a similar finish, but requires a little more attention and experience when using it.

How to use:
Do not soak this whetstone. Simply apply water on the surface when ready to use. Rinse and wipe dry with a hand towel when done, and allow air dry at room temp. Do not leave in water.
How to clean:
If the stone’s performance is slowing down, or seems to be diminishing, you can clean using the nagura stone. Be sure to clean the entire surface of the whetstone when using any of these methods to ensure even wear of the whetstone’s surface.
The King Gold is just an excellent finishing stone. I have a DMT 8000 grit (3 micron) diamond stone, a Shapton Kuromaku 8000 grit ceramic stone, and an 8000 grit Shapton Ceramic Waterstone. They all work well on some steels, but the King works well on all steels, and especially kitchen knives. I have had mine for several years, and it has lasted well. I do soak it for about 15 minutes before use.
The King works well for polishing or stropping kitchen knives. It comes with a flattening stone, and that is all I have used to keep it flat.
