Itame-jihada

On high-end Honyaki blade, with single steel type folded into thousands of layers, a flowing, irregular grain pattern, resembling the flat-sawn pattern in wood. Looks like swirls, waves, or fingerprints on the steel. Considered dynamic, organic, lively. Often shows up when the smith folds and forges the steel in a way that allows grain to cross and twist.
